GERBER 1968 – (Vietnam Era) MARK II KNIFE – SERIAL # 008824
Knife does not appear to have ever been used as the blade is full and shows no signs of use or sharpening.

The handle is in near mint condition with only one tiny pin head size paint chip. The pommel shows no signs of any missing paint. The hilt or cross guard shows very minor paint chips from the very edges of the hilt and again they are pin head size.

The blade is NOT canted and this is correct for the period. The blade, while never used, does exhibit some discoloration near the hilt were the logo and serial numbers are stamped. The blade appears to have been slightly cleaned as there are a few pock marks in the blade but again this is only in a few spots. I tried hard to capture them in the pictures shown.

The sheath is in near mint condition and appears to have had a light coat of brown polish applied and the stitching is stained brown but tight and all in tact. The snap and snap button is in near mint condition. The GI Web Belt hanger has been removed and the sheath displays the proper Gerber logo less the zip code which is correct for this knife.

I believe this knife was probably never used but at some period it was stored in the sheath thus resulting in someone having to touch up the blade.

In 1968 there were 4,022 of these made, most of them probably put into service in Vietnam and therefore have become real collector’s items as well as very good investments as they continue to appreciate in price. There were probably not many of these Vietnam era Gerber Mark II’s that have survived the years, and those that did would probably not come close to the condition of this one. While not 100% dead mint, It is in excellent + condition.
